Menopause is a natural biological process in which the menstrual cycle ends and menstruation is not observed for 1 year, it is not a disease. But physical symptoms like hot flashes and emotional symptoms due to hormone imbalances can disrupt your sleep, lower your energy, or affect your emotional health. There are many effective treatments for menopause, from lifestyle changes to hormone therapy.
Menopause is diagnosed when there is no menstrual period for 12 months. Although it differs in every woman, the most common symptoms of menopause are; irregular menstrual periods, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbance, emotional changes, sexual reluctance, dry skin, feeling of less fullness in the breasts and weight gain.
Causes of menopause include decline in reproductive hormones due to ageing, undergoing hysterectomy or chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
In the premenopausal period, menstrual periods begin to show irregularities. Usually the menstrual cycle occurs every two months. These intervals may increase up to several months. It is important to spend this period under the supervision of a doctor. Unless the process is supported by an appropriate treatment, there might be risks of some diseases due to changes in hormones.
