The hymen is the half-moon shaped membrane that closes the vaginal entrance in virgin women. It is usually torn open along with minor bleeding during the first sexual intercourse. The hymen is not in a position where the person can see it by themselves, a gynecological examination must be done.
Bleeding may not be seen in every woman when the hymen is broken. The flexible hymen may not be torn until the first birth. The amount of bleeding varies from person to person.
The operation to repair the hymen is called hymenoplasty. The hymen can be sutured with an operation of 15-20 minutes. As well as long-term stitching, a short-term hymen operation 48 hours before intercourse can also be done.
